The Vigilante Justice System

This is an old excerpt from my Myspace blog. In case you don't have access to it...

Interesting Conversations: Part 1
Current mood: amused

This is an excerpt from an interesting conversation that I was a part of in L.A...

Me: When I was in my apartment last night, someone tried to knock the door in. What if someone tries to do that when I am not there.

Other guy: Post.

Me: What?

Other guy: Post. Have one of your boys stand outside of your door when you are not there.

Me: (slightly bewildered) Well...what if it happens when i am there.

Other Guy: If someone tries to do that when you are there, snatch him up and give him a good old fashioned beat-down!!

This was obviously an interesting conversation (to say the least). Sometimes it seems like the vigilante justice system gets as much credibility as the real one. Outrageous incidents happen and years pass before someone recommends calling the real police. Sometimes it seems like people would recommend getting a gun permit before calling the police. I hear someone tell me to take matters into my own hand the vast majority of the time or i will tell someone about a situation and a conversation similar to this will follow:

Other guy: "Call this number! Everything will work out if you dial this number!"

Me: (Slightly bewildered) What is this number?

Other Guy: "Just call it, Man!!!"

Every group has it code and rules that it lives by to varying degrees. But at what point do you call the real police. Where is the line? When do you "Post" and when do you actually call the real police?
