Online Account Problems

It has become very apparent to me that whoever was/ is hacking into my online accounts wasnt just reading e-mails. Contact information in my online address books and e-mail addresses on my instant messenger accounts have been altered. I am not sure exactly when this started and I am not sure how to get in touch with a lot of my friends at the moment. If you have tried to contact me but havent been able to, I can be reached at adshanno@gmail.com. I dont use that e-mail address the most but I check it relatively frequently. If I dont respond it is probably because of the problems that I have been having with my accounts...I am working on fixing the problem. You can always attempt to contact me at the Southfield number where i have been reachable for the last ten years (Even though I havent generally been here)...

When I realized what has been happening with my account, i wasn't quite sure how to feel about it. Its not really something to be impressed by as much as it is a crossing of the line that I only fathom because it has occured. While most people are hesitant to litter, someone has no inhibitions about hacking into my accounts and has already built upon that decison by altering information. To the best of my knowledge, this can only be done administratively: Its more an issue of being in a position to steal someone's password than having a lot of "know-how."

Social Vacuums...

I realize that I rarely blog anything that happened very recently. My life is such that I wouldn't blog much of what happens until years later. This is because of two reasons 1) My life is so exciting at that moment that I wouldn't mention it or 2) My life is so boring at that moment that it doesn't seem worth blogging at all...

We end up in Social Vacuums a lot in life. By Social Vacuums I mean that everyone is similarly situated enough that, from a Social standpoint, the only thing that matters in the characteristics that you ring to the table. Everyone is similarly situated enough that you are free to make certain assumption about people just based on the fact that they are there. To the extent that certain assumptions might be wrong about certain people its not usually something that matters.

It seems like what a person assumes about a person in a Social Vacuum is usually about true of about 80% of the people. Like someone who is outside of the realm of what you would assume exists, but it is so unlikely that you don't walk around thinking about it. I feel that, for better or for worst, I encounter the 20% fairly often in life. Occasionally its an issue that is very important and obviously would matter. I constantly find myself saying, "I can't believe that they didn't tell me that..."

Hmm...

You might wonder...."What's so great about halloween?" For most of my life Halloween was a one day thing where I didnt celebrate it or buy a costume half of the time. The Halloween party might or might not have been any fun. It was an entirely different experience when it lasted long enough to actually "get into it."

Rivalry Week is always an interesting time of year. Teams haven't felt so much animosity since Rivalry Week the previous year and records entering the game dont matter. If thats not the dynamic, its not a very good rivalry.

Recently, I was flipping through the channels and saw Saturday Night Live on television. I assume that it was a new episode: I watch it infrequently enough that just about every epsiode that I ever see is a new episode so far as I am concerned. It made me think: I can't imagine Saturday Night Live ever ending. Saturday Night Live seems like the Channel 7 news: As long as there is a channel 7, the news will be shown on televison from 5-6:30...

I have talked to many personal trainers and learned of many workouts that are worthwhile. It is interesting that the best workout that I have ever encountered was something that someone told me about at Starbucks. Once, i was studying at a Starbucks and a guy asked me about what i was studying. He was wearing a Personal Trainer shirt and my workout at the time was not seeing the results that I hoped for, so I had a question for him as well. I told him what I was trying to accomplish and, over the course of a minute, he told me about the best workout strategy that I have ever seen or heard of. I saw results so fast that the people who worked at Starbucks got scared and started offering me free pastries to slow the process. It was a reminder that being Social pays off...

More Random Thoughts...

Everyone has has the experience of having someone call them the wrong name. When this happens there are two directions that you can go with that: 1) You can assume that they forgot your name or 2) You can assume that they have mistaken you for someone else. If I recognize the person I usually assume that they forgot my name, but that's not necessarily true. I wonder how many times I have picked the wrong of those two possibilities...

I was thinking of the Halloween a couple of years ago where it was halloween 24/7 for an entire month. A entire month of halloween parties. It seems like college town areas are most conducive to that sort of thing. I have not spent much time in the Research Triangle area (and do not plan to) but it seems like Halloween could be a fun time there with so many colleges in the area...

Recently I was thinking of those National Lampoon's "Jake The Pimp" games that were online for a while. I am not sure how popular those games were. It seemed like the sort of thing that would get shut down if it ever gained more than a cult following. I remember that there was a particular episode/cartoon game that was about bar hopping in Hollywood. It was about the Cahuenga/Selma area specifically. I thought it was cool because it depicted the exact bars that were on that block at the time. At the time I would think "I am going to play this online game about that area then I am going to drive over and hang out there in real life!!!!!" Of course I made it a point to stay far away from any place that had a rainbow over the door. I was in more or less walking distance from the area so it was pretty convenient. In hindsight that was a Commercial mindset but it was(and at some level still is) "Me"...

The Vigilante Justice System

This is an old excerpt from my Myspace blog. In case you don't have access to it...

Interesting Conversations: Part 1
Current mood: amused

This is an excerpt from an interesting conversation that I was a part of in L.A...

Me: When I was in my apartment last night, someone tried to knock the door in. What if someone tries to do that when I am not there.

Other guy: Post.

Me: What?

Other guy: Post. Have one of your boys stand outside of your door when you are not there.

Me: (slightly bewildered) Well...what if it happens when i am there.

Other Guy: If someone tries to do that when you are there, snatch him up and give him a good old fashioned beat-down!!

This was obviously an interesting conversation (to say the least). Sometimes it seems like the vigilante justice system gets as much credibility as the real one. Outrageous incidents happen and years pass before someone recommends calling the real police. Sometimes it seems like people would recommend getting a gun permit before calling the police. I hear someone tell me to take matters into my own hand the vast majority of the time or i will tell someone about a situation and a conversation similar to this will follow:

Other guy: "Call this number! Everything will work out if you dial this number!"

Me: (Slightly bewildered) What is this number?

Other Guy: "Just call it, Man!!!"

Every group has it code and rules that it lives by to varying degrees. But at what point do you call the real police. Where is the line? When do you "Post" and when do you actually call the real police?

Random Thoughts

In the not-to- distant past, I noticed that certain rap albums were in the jukebox at dive bars. This struck me as interesting. You might say, "Who cares what's in the jukebox at a dive bar." I think that if a rap album is successful with its target audience and it is getting playing time in a dive bar in the middle of nowhere, that is an accomplishment. That idea goes for other situations as well...

My online accounts continue to get hacked into. The full extent of the problems that someone can cause if they can hack into your accounts at will is a very menacing idea. I should work harder at remedying this problem.

Recently, I was thinking of playing sports when I was younger. I remember a guy who used to go 0 for 7 from the field when we played basketball, then he would kick someone in the face if they tried to dunk on him or come at him for a lay up. Fights would break out because people would land weird because he fouled them so hard. He was always picked to play: We always knew that the other team was only shooting jumpers when he was on the court. I wonder what happened that guy...

The Captive Audience

Its interesting to think of how many times I have been a captive audience in life. Being a captive audience can take numerous forms. How many times have you over heard a loud conversation that was happening far away and everything that you heard was offensive? Like you should not have heard any of the conversation regardless of the content because you were so far away, but instead you heard all of it and it made you cringe. That situation where people are often standing right outside of your window yelling some sort of verbal battery that is supposedly not aimed at you but very offensive because you heard it is not any better. I have come to the conclusion that you cannot always check the content depending on the circumstances and what was said, but you can always check the noise level...

I feel that I am a captive audience wen I am watching television as well. It usually does not matter to me but occasionally it does. How many times have you been watching basic television and the station showed some sort of content that the station doesn't usually show? If you were watching HBO and it was some R-rated movie you could have at least braced yourself but you had no idea that it was coming because they were showing it on a station that is not known for controversy at 4:00 in the afternoon. Interesting to think about...

New Years

I haven't gone anywhere or done anything special for New Years the last few years. If I end up watching the ball drop at home again, I won't be too happy about that. Id better start making plans early to avoid the same fate next year.

I was thinking of commercials recently. This made me wonder if the commercial that I thought was the funniest when I was growing up was on youtube. I found it...

Olympics...

I was going to write some of the songs that are on the playlist that I mentioned in my last blog. I realize that these topics get a bad response sometimes so I decided not to post it. I definitely dont want to hear anything that I don't like, but its definitely not as simple as the best songs or the one's that I liked the most at the time are the one's that I still want to hear. Sometimes I wonder what the quality is that makes me want to hear something for the 10,000th time...

Recently, i was watching the closing ceremonies of the Olympics and was shocked that the Olympics were ending so soon. In hindsight i am not sure why I felt that way: I have never watched anything as much as this year's Olympics and thought that it was ending abruptly. Its like I watched a hundred events so passively that it almost feels like I only watched one event.

Recently i checked the website that posts games like the Crimson Room (which is unrelated to the Crimson Spot). I look for a new version of this games once a year and there is usually a new one posted. IT seems like you need a stronger eye glass prescription to find that last key that you need to get out of the room each year. Fun!

This is my last recommendation for old sitcom shows. I am not sure if this is on Youtube or not but if you can find the Alfred Hitchcock Presents episode called "The Case of Mr. Pelham," its pretty interesting...

Seriously...

I wrote a blog about being cynical that could easily be taken the wrong way. I realize that that blog, combined with my writing style and the fact that people who read the blog may not know me exceptionally well (which is extremely likely to be the case...you shouldn't make any assumptions about how well anyone knows me at this point) could lead to some confusion as to how serious what I am saying is. A person could easily not know whether what i am writing as serious or jest. Though I jest in my blogs, i am always serious about the message that i am conveying generally. Stories that I write about in my blogs are usually true. If they are not exactly true they are only slightly tweaked out of proportion/altered (either as an understatement or otherwise)...

Recently, i was looking at some old music. There have been a lot of songs that were outrageously popular. If you turned on a radio, you heard the song. If you visited a friend, they were playing the song, Bars and clubs played the song every time you went out, you had a copy of the song, etc. I am a bit out of the loop as far as what music is popular, but I am sure that there is a song that is popular like that right now. After a while it gets to the point where even if you like the song, you can't stand to hear it anymore because you have heard it so often. Eventually, they stop playing that song. One day, you look around and you haven't heard that song for years. I still can't stand to hear most songs like that no matter how many yeas have passed, but I made a playlist consisting of songs like that that I wanted to hear again after not hearing them for a few years...

Improvements...

Every so often, classic ideas have to be improved because people become desensitized to them or to keep up with the competition. It seems like a lot of ideas are improved by making them more dangerous. I remember watching American Gladiators when I younger. i am not sure if that show is still on television, but apparently the competition has people fighting lions instead of gladiators now. Its like those types of show aren't any good anymore unless they put someone in a tank full of sharks with a harpoon. Its exciting to watch people get shot out of canons into a lake, swim a mile, then run an obstacle course in the middle of the lake that includes bear traps and battering rams made of wood, but it seems like a bit much. Recently I saw new razors that have four razor blades instead of 3. 3 blades was a very close cut, Now there are four blades. Its like your blade isn't any good anymore unless it cuts so close that you are a shade lighter after using it.

Often it is important to talk about traumatic experiences, but sometimes I wonder about people who bring up very old traumatic experiences from years ago for no apparent reason. I mean that "post-traumatic stress" type experience that you obviously dont want to talk about. Its like "You just called me and asked me about that car accident an hour ago..."

Random Thoughts

The problems that I have had with my online accounts have persisted. E-mails have been deleted before I have had a chance to read them among other problems. I am not sure exactly how affective it is to attempt to contact me online. I have done a lot of research to determine how my passwords could be stolen so often and so consistently. I have a pretty good idea about how its happening now. I am not sure that anything can be done about this at the moment. More about this later...

Recently, I saw an escalator that was a few stories tall. I have never seen an escalator that tall and wonder how safe an escalator the size of a roller coaster could possibly be. I also saw a 3-dimensional face drawn on the size of a building that was probably somewhere between 10 and 20 stories high. I found this somewhat unsettling and wonder how it hasn't caused an accident...

Finally, I was thinking of the use of ironic twists as a device in "Scary Movies." I was watching a marathon back in 2002 at around 2 in the morning and this one creeped me out to no end. I wonder how many people would agree that this is a good episode. There are some interesting themes explored in this one. I am not sure whether they are trying to get people consider what people who make outlandish claims have to say or if it is about the perils of freeing hostages. I am not posting this to convey any of those messages... Just an example of a scarily ironic plot twist... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LKILEel3hyU&feature=related

Television and Overused Statements...

I don't watch television often, but sometimes I watch television I see something on a program that is thought provoking. Recently, I saw a marathon of a show that I used to watch when I was younger. It was great to see this show, but this marathon didn't show any "Classic" episodes. Marathons that don't show classic episodes are inherently weak: If my first impression of this show was based on watching that "marathon," I would wonder why it was ever popular. I guess I will have to find the episodes that I expected to see during the marathon on Youtube...

I was watching television after midnight one night. At that time of night there are pretty much only infomercials, re-runs of talk shows, COPS, and weird "caught on video" shows. One of the weird "caught on video" shows had a segment about a kid who was raised by a pack of wolves. The kid was a part of the pack and more or less behaved like a wolf. I don't buy that at all and am very skeptical about what sort of weird subliminal they were trying to send underneath the radar...

Recently, I had a conversation with someone. We discovered that we knew people in common or something of that nature and I said "Small World." Usually, this type of remark is said without incident: One person says "Small Word" then the conversation moves on to a different topic. Not this time. This person adamantly disagreed with me and took me to task on the idea. Mind you that I keep a can on Pepper Spray with me just in case a remark like "Small World" devolves into some sort of incident. I listened to the person's argument and he made some valid points. This caused me to think... If its not a "Small World,"what are the implications of that?

You Tube...

Lately I have heard a lot of arguments and ideas that are not based in any logic or standards. It makes me wonder if I should give up on attempting to "make sense" and logic entirely. Needing to "make sense" or be logical is an extreme handicap when no one else is held to the same standard.

Recently, I began using You Tube again. I started using You Tube a few years ago and I assume that most You Tube users started using You Tube a few years ago also. I am using You Tube again because I recently realized that depth of the material that is on You Tube. Every commercial, every movie clip, every TV show, every video, Every sporting Event: You can find it on You Tube. I realized that You tube was extensive before, but there is a huge difference between that and being able EVERYTHING on the website...

Interesting...

I had an interesting dream recently. After i woke up and thought about it, it seemed like a good allegory/metaphor for my life. I was playing in a basketball league. The season was going very well: I was averaging twenty-five points per game. The interesting thing about it was that every point that I scored was a result of goal-tending. The other team literally goal-tended every shot that I took that wasn't a last -second shot. It was great, to score twenty-five points per game, but it was a bit demoralizing to almost never actually score a point under normal circumstances.

Friends have often said that my use of metaphors was a bit excessive and that I should be more direct, but this metaphor seems very on-point. In life, I have been scoring a lot of points, but I rarely actually get to see that ball go into the basket...

"Inadvertent or not it happened!"

I was thinking more about being an "Extreme Eventist." Extreme Events continue to happen so its not difficult to do so. I have come to the conclusion that when a person is an "Extreme Eventist," it is important to check every event that crosses the line in whatever way is appropriate. If an objective assessment says that your life should be relatively "eventless" but you still witness or are a part of an Extreme Event every other day, it is important to check. It is normal to let a lot of things go in life, but when you are an Extreme Eventist you dont really have that luxury...

Of course, a lot of events can't be checked. Yesterday, A flock of birds that I had previously only seen in zoos landed in my backyard and hung out there for an extended period of time. I have no idea how typical this is (I am new to the area), but this was an absolutely new experience for me. I didn't "check" this event and chase the birds off of the property. I just watched the spectacle. It wasn't a negative thing to occur, but these sorts of events take a bit out of me even when they are positive. I am hoping that the next Extreme Event that I am a part of isn't a powerful hurricane that puts me and my apartment in the ocean..

A few days ago I was writing the date and almost wrote "2007" instead of "2008." This happened because I had recently looked at something that had "2007" written on it. This made me try to remember the latest time of the year when I accidentally wrote the date from the year before. The latest that I can recall is mid-February. I bet some people out there recently wrote "1998" and had to catch themselves because the year is "2008" now...

Spy-ware...

I have used a free Anti-virus program for a while. Recently they came up with a new 2007 version of it that I downloaded. I had both the old verson and the new version of the program on my computer for a while. The interesting thing was that the old version found a lot more spware than the new version. In fact, the new one only found low-level spyware. For a while I wondered whether there really wasn't any signifcant spyware or my computer or if the new version of the free program was worthless. When I ran an Anti-Virus program that was not free, it found more than 500 Critical/ High level bugs on my computer that the free version missed. Miraculously, it didnt take ten minutes to load a page and my computer no longer randomly sent me to random sights. I undersand not wanting the free version to be so good that there is no need for the non-free version, but why create something that is utterly worthless?

Recently, I have grown accustomed to the lizards that are everywhere instead of insects where I live. At first they surprised me a bit, but I have grown accustomed to seeing them. Apparently they are harmless, but I realized that I should probably get a more expert opinion about that. The last thing I would want to be is mistaken about whether something is harmless or not...

Extreme Eventist

I have discovered that I am a member of a profession that I never realized existed. I am officially giving it a name: Extreme Eventist. It doesn't pay any money, but it tires you at unheard of levels. Basically I witness or am a part of some Extreme Event or Incident purely by virtue of circumstances. The kind where if someone else is there you say "Holy S***!! Did you see that??!! Are you kidding me??!!" Otherwise you call people and say something similar later. At that point you try to cope until 2 hrs later when somthing else of that magnitude happens and the process starts all over again...

On a different note...I wonder about craigslist sometimes: What percentage of it is legitimate and what percenage of it is a Phishing site?

Happy New Year!

This was the third consecutive year that I did not go to a New Years Eve party. Not That I have ever gone to a real New Years Eve Bash: I have definitely had a lot more fun than sitting at home and watching other people at New Year's Eve parties, though. I will have to work on ending that streak next year.
This New Years has been thought provoking. If someone had told me that, I would be in farm country marveling at the size of the ant-hills at this time last year, I would have laughed at them...
This is such a stretch from what I am used to that it caused me to think about the past and some outrageous situations that i have seen or been around. I have come to the conclusion that a lot of it happens because of a combination of a "F*** it, why not!" attitude combined with the fact that No matter what was going on, someone not-too-far away was always doing something even more outrageous.
I used to hang out at certain coffee shops for hours, but there was always that guy who took it to the next level. I remember a guy at a coffee shop who had 2 laptops and a printer set up at a table and was trying to teach himself Linnux. Why was he doing that? "Cause f*** it, why not?!" Is the only reason that I can come up with. I wonder who he was looking at that made him think, "This is nothing compared to what that guy is doing..."
Its Interesting to think about....
