I watched the "Get Smart" movie that was in theaters recently. I was not born when the original series was on television but I used to watch the reruns on Nick at Night when I was a kid. After the movie I was left to wonder: Is get smart more about futuristic devices or is it more about the devices that were used in the original series? A shoe phone doesn't seem nearly as futuristic now as it did 40 years ago but would it seem like get smart without a shoe phone? Would it be a a better update of the original series if they used something that was Futuristic by today's standard as opposed to the shoe phone? Its one of those questions like "Are you more like a person who is very unique if you are also very unique or are you more like that person if your behavior is actually similar to theirs?"

Have you ever asked someone to translate something that someone said then they wouldn't translate it? They just said something like, "They said something crazy..."

I was watching a phoenix game recently: Grant Hill attacked the rim full-speed and nearly Dunked on someone. I was thinking "Wow! A lot of players who haven't recovered from serious energy don't attack the rim that way...

I was also thinking of a different basketball related topic: Ways that a player can lengthen his career. Basketball players play into their upper thirties often anyway now but...

This isn't a complete list and its not in any order of importance but...

1. Zone defense- The fact that the NBA allows zone defenses now makes it easier to keep players in the league longer: Its not as difficult to kee a quicker/faster character in front of you playing a zne defense.

2. Superstars who play on teams with other Superstars/ All stars- This is very common now but not true of Every team. Playing alongside Pau Gasol will lengthen Kobe Bryant's careers. Actually, it will lengthen Odom and Artest's career also. Guys who are the only Exceptional players on the team have shorter careers.

3. Being willing to be a role player in later years- Not everyone is willing to be a role player if they used to be the main option.

4. Don't play through serious injuries- Some injuires are not as serious as others: Some injuries won't shorted a players career if he plays through it. No one can question the heart of someone who plays through serious injuries but most teams would have been better off in the long term to have important players play a few extra years as opposed to playing through significant injuries.
